Hi Nunzia, hi friends of GMA,
finally I read all your Mails. So someone else is coming over, Prof. Marco Guadagno and his wife will be welcome, I’ll show them our schools and projects. Good to know in advance! My work is going on, after a month I feel now at home! Tomorrow I'll meet with the sports teachers to organize the football and sports tournament: but it'll be done only for Girls, because there are a lot of activities for boys. I did not forget about the jeans sent the donor of Casalnuovo for the children in Casa Famiglia, but they'll only get them for Easter (8/04), so I can take and sent then the photos only when we handle them over to them. At the moment there are 130 children absent as they returned to their villages and we don’t now if they’ll come back, for some sponsored children I’ve already started to look for them at their houses, in schools and somewhere else asking their teachers or neighbours, often families move overnight without leaving any info. I can go through the list and finish to meet ALL the sponsored children before leaving next June. Don't worry Nunzia, Maria and..... Tonight I'm going to join the others to see the soccer match between Liverpool and Chelsea. They are crazy about British football teams, and..... about Ballack from Germany!(Don’t forget I come from GERMANY!). So far everything is brillant over here. Every evening Mimi(the teacher of Mejaha) comes over to attend to my English lessons and even Gigi is turning into a native speaker :-). In the CD I’ve sent, you'll also find a list with changes I made in GMA main list, because some children left, others changed classes or even..... the spelling of their names ,etc. You will see it. From this week on I'll go once a week to sr Jaquie and sr Cristina to help them in curing and feeding the poor women and their children at their emergency centre. One day a week I'll go to Mejaha and another day to Tikur Wuha to teach them using the pocket ABCs and other educational materials I prepared for the children over there. One morning and one afternoon I’m at Women promotion Centre to teach and check their work and to let them present their use of the money received within the microcredit project. On Saturdays I'll go to the blind school because I created a game for them and we have to try it out. I have to talk to Takele too, to organize methodogical workshop for all the teachers who need it. Other teachers and boys for Casa Famiglia want to be taught computers as well and for me there is no problem. Together with Mimi and Tariku I will start the organization for the office to look after GMA matters. So far I have always been busy with the photos and Easter drawings and now I need to calm down a bit. last weeks I could rarely take a rest and sometime I have been working for 12 hours, because I wanted to finish all before Gigi’d leave. Now I’ll change the way I'm doing and I'll enjoy the Ethiopian way of living. I'm still trying to prepare a label for the items produced by the Women Prom. Centre, and then I’ll start using the fantastic educational materials on CDs Frank gave to us.... THANKS FRANK FROM ALL OF US IN SHASHAMANE AND MEKI. Nunzia, I am really enjoying myself over here. It is wonderful to work with the children, my degree in Sociology and Psycology didn’t teach me so many aspects which these people tell me, with love everyday. RITORNO DI GIGI

Da Gigi riceviamo informazioni sulla nuova scuola di Mejaha e bellissime foto scattate durante i suoi 50 giorni di volontariato a servizio della missione dove ha "formato" i ragazzi nei lavori di manutenzione e costruzione. Infatti orgogliosamente ci dice che per la nuova scuola è stato messo a punto un sicuro impianto elettrico ed idraulico, tutto fatto con materiale e manodopera locale. Anche la recinsione è stata ultimata con il lavoro dei nostri ragazzi.

ABBA TEMESGEN A NAPOLI

Temesgen, nostro ospite invitato speciale dai Berardi in occasione delle nozze di Mariaelena e Francesco, è il sacerdote missionario da noi sostenuto in Etiopia ed è il referente locale del GMA Napoli insieme a Padre Silvio. Da lui abbiamo le ultime notizie su Shashamane e Meki:

"Sono felice di essere qui in Italia perchè ho finalmente la possibilità di incontrare tutte le persone che quotidianamente sostengono le iniziative del GMA e dei suoi volontari per migliorare la vita a Shashemane. Molte le speranze che la mia gente cerca di affidare a chi parte, a Mejaha i lavori per la nuova scuola sono stati fermati momentaneamente in attesa di altri fondi dall'Italia, il piccolo ponte costruito ha retto all'inondazione ma per quello più grande stiamo cercando di conivolgere al massimo la popolazione locale per la manodopera e i materiali,perchè comprendiamo che sar difficile aggiungere al progetto altri 12.000,00 euro ma credetemi quel ponte SI DEVE FARE e anche l'aacqua e l'elettricità porteranno cambiamenti sostanziali nel villaggio. Nella scuola in costruzione c'è la SPERANZA infatti qualche bambino mi guardava con malinconia..avrei voluto portarli tutti via con me.. Ma non per finire annegati nel Mediterraneo ma piuttosto venire qui perchè no come turisti,professionisti pronti a rtornare poi in Etiopia per arricchirla delle vostre conoscenze e delle vostre esèerienze. La crisi alimentare causata dall'impennata dei prezzi dei generi di prima necessita' sui mercati mondiali, unita al caro petrolio e a fattori 'endemici' come la violenza dovuta alla poverta' e all'ignoranza più i prolungati periodi di siccita', rischiano di provocare una nuova emergenza umanitaria nel Corno d'Africa, dove quasi 15 milioni di persone necessitano di immediati rifornimenti di cibo.Andrò a Milano e poi a Verona dove già tramie Nunzia ci hanno aiutato altre associazioni proprio per continuare il discorso AIUTI PER L'EMERGENZA. La Chiesa Cattolica come le altre ONG si sono trasformate in "croce rossa" alimentare, e questo mi rattrista in particolare quando dobbiamo chiudere le porte delle nostre missioni alle lunghe file che si formano di disperati in cerca di aiuto. Si fa quel che si può, organizzazioni austriache-spagnole-svizzere-italiane ci danno una grande mano ma pare che non basti mai.L'Etiopia come l'Africa ha bisogno di strade e infrastrutture per essere pronta all'emergenze legate al clima e alle pandemie,come l'aids. Se avessimo prevenzione sanitaria,acqua pulita, istruzione potremmo nel giro di una generazione cambiare con le nostre forze il nostro futuro. Quando arrivano medicinali e alimenti diventa un problema di costi e di mezzi portarli nei villaggi più lontani. Nel blog del GMA ho messo delle immagini, come questa



e notizie sulla diocesi di Meki dove, malgrado la mia giovane età e poca esperienza, mi è stato affidato il compito di affiancare Padre Monti quasi 80enne amministratore e responsabile delle relazioni con l'esterno. Anche a suo nome,di Padre Silvio e del Vescovo ringrazio tutti voi per l'aiuto che ci date e chiedo al Signore di benedire le vostre famiglie, il vostro lavoro e impegno sociale".

Abba Temesgen ha chiesto al suo vescovo il permesso di rimanere fino alla fine di maggio per poter rispondere all'invito dei nostri amici a Milano, Verona e Roma, più le varie parrocchie, scuole e gruppi che ci sostengono nel napoletano. E' bello constatare che il suo italiano è migliorato moltissimo e che può testimoniare sul nostro lavoro laggiù, sulla cultura etiope, sulle problematiche africane, senza la nostra intermediazione, come già facemmo nella sua prima visita nel 2006. Se volete incontrarlo, appuntamento il 22 maggio in mattinata a Villa Bruno, S. Giorno, in occasione della chiusura delle attività EAS (Educazione allo Sviluppo). Potreste anche invitarlo a "casa vostra" colmando i pochi giorni che gli sono rimasti senza appuntamenti.
